Atelier Ellis Materials is an independent R&D and manufacturing business based in Sussex and London, founded on intelligent making, materiality and environmental care. 

Our pioneering, human-focused approach allows us to offer full service private label manufacturing using safe, natural materials, as well as providing bespoke architectural paint, colours and finishes.  

Our manufacturing is based on a farm in the heart of the South Downs, surrounded by nature. Our paint and materials are produced using clean, locally sourced materials and is fed by a reservoir for our water and manufacturing needs. Being routed in landscape and utilising local resources, anchors our thinking and decision making.

But we go beyond this. We are pushing the boundaries of what is possible through the innovation and R&D that are at the heart of Atelier Ellis Materials. We want the container of a building to be a comfortable and healthy framework. By manufacturing our own clean finishes, we are able to deliver environmental care and renowned colour palettes that work for businesses, brands and human serving institutions. 

Working with architects, developers and institutions at scale, we bring together intelligent making with the beauty of raw materials and their ability to anchor us in the natural world. Focusing on large, human centered projects allows us to develop and manufacture paints and other finishes that are relevant for the environment and the people inhabiting them.  

We research, develop and manufacture bespoke paints, materials, finishes and colour palettes using  natural materials to help our clients create brand and site-specific spaces and environments that reflect their philosophy. This results in places where people can feel safe, uplifted and protected. 

We work with galleries and museums to create uplifting colour palettes that enhance their curatorial and commercial needs. We develop substrate sensitive formulations and colours for heritage buildings and trusts as well as researching and creating colours  for historic accuracy.
